General Information
- Please do not enter the grounds until Highland Games staff has arrived.
- Morning registration to open at 8:00 am for Primary, Beginner & Novice.
- Competition to start at 8:30 am with the Fling.
- Afternoon registration to open at 10:30 am for Intermediate & Premier.
- Intermediate and Premier Lilt to be danced immediately following the completion of the morning dancing;
a small break will take place following this, for the morning competition awards and the opening ceremonies.
Dances & Entry Fees
Primary ($20.00): PDB (16), PDB & HC (x4), Fling (4), Sword (2 & 1)
Beginner/Novice ($25.00): Fling (4), Sword (2 & 1), Seann Triubhas (3 & 1), Lilt (4)
Intermediate/Premier ($30.00): Lilt (4), Fling (4), Seann Triubhas (3 & 1), Strathspey & Highland Reel (4)
Note: The above dance fees include a $1 ScotDance Canada fee.
Venue
Dance Competition will be held on the outdoor stage, located in the West corner near the beach. There will be a set of
bleachers for spectators, whoever, it is limited seating, please bring lawn chairs. In the event of rain, the Dance
Competition will be held inside of the Agricultural Hall.
Parking
Limited parking is available onsite as a “First come, first served” basis for $15. Additional free parking located at the
Almonte Arena, with a free shuttle to the grounds. Please do not enter the grounds until Highland Games staff are
present. They will direct you accordingly.
There is NO RV/trailer parking on site. Trailers and RV’s may be parked at the Almonte & District Community Center.
Rules Governing Competition
The NLHG will not be responsible for loss of property or injury no matter how caused. The philosophies and applicable
rules of the RSOBHD will govern the conduct of this competition. ALL dancers must present a valid 2025 dancer
registration card, or proof that one has been applied for, on the day of the competition. Any dancer without a card must
pay a $10 penalty and have any awards won withheld until such time as the dancer can present their valid card.
Technique and steps will be judged under RSOBHD regulations. Judge’s decision is final. Steps as indicated by numbers in
brackets on this entry form. Dancers must dance in own category and age group. Age is determined as of the day of
competition. Age groups formed at the discretion of the Games Committee according to entries. Age groups of fewer
than 8 dancers will be avoided where possible. Swords will be placed for all competitors. Competitors will dance in
reverse order of receipt of entries: “First to enter, last to dance”.
Please Note: As per ScotDance Canada’s “Child and Youth Abuse Prevention Program” policy, dancers will not be
permitted to change in public areas, nor be permitted to be in the competition area only wearing bra tops or sports bras
with dickies. Dancers must wear their jacket/vest, sweatshirt, studio jacket or tank top over any bra-type top used for
dancing whenever outside the designated change area. We ask all dancers and parents of dancers for their cooperation
in this regard and to please use the designated change areas when changing.
Awards & Trophies
Prizes awarded to a maximum of 6 places with the appropriate dance points awarded (137, 91, 71, 53, 37, 23).
Aggregate keeper trophy will be awarded in each age category except Primary.
Medals will be given to all categories except the most senior Premier age group. Cash Awards will be given to the most
senior Premier age group. Cash awards for other Premier groups may be given out if entries and ages warrant.
Dancers must remain in appropriate costume for presentation of awards.
Most Promising Dancer: A perpetual and keeper trophy will be awarded to the Beginner or Novice dancer who is
deemed most promising by the Judge.
Dancer of the Day: An overall perpetual and keeper trophy will be awarded to the Premier dancer with the highest total
points over all events and all Premier age groups. As per RSOBHD rules, age groups must have a minimum of 6
competitors on the day of competition in order to be eligible for an overall perpetual trophy. If there are fewer than 6
competitors in any individual dance, then points gained in that dance will not be included in the total aggregate points
for the overall perpetual trophy. If it has been decided to hold a ‘dance off’ for an overall award, then all eligible
competitors may compete regardless of the number of competitors within their individual group.
